In 2000, a small group of Occupational Therapists in Ireland, lead by Eimer Ni Riain, got together to see if they could raise money to support students of Occupational Therapy in Africa. They successfully raised money in Ireland to support Occupational Therapy students to get their education in Tanzania. At the time, the total cost of an OT student's education for three years, at the Tanzanian School of Occupational Therapy was equivalent to €6,600. The group contacted organisations, companies and trade unions such as Impact asking them to donate towards the education of Occupational Therapists and other Health professionals in Africa and Asia. The group had contacts in Tanzania, including volunteers working at the University in Tanzania through their partnership with Skillshare International, who helped identify potential students. This partnership with Skillshare International has further developed and now:
